In the heart of a deep winter, while snowflakes fell like feathers from the sky, a queen was sewing by an ebony-framed window. Pricking her finger with the needle, three drops of blood fell on the white snow. The contrast was so beautiful that the queen thought: "I wish I had a daughter with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony!"
